Simple Tips to Improve Concentration and Focus in kids

Kids are always high on energy and fun-loving. Getting them to sit at a place is a challenge in itself. Forget focus and concentration to finish tasks with full concentration. The main reason they get distracted easily is that their minds work differently than adults. As a parent, the most common concern is how to improve the concentration of my child and how to get focus during online classes? I am sure many other parents would be feeling the same. So, in this post, I am sharing some proven tips to improve concentration and focus in kids. Something that has worked for us in the past and still continues to work. I am sure, these tips will help in increasing the concentration levels in children, especially in recent times when they are going through online education during these important years of growth.

It is common that kids at a younger age find it hard to focus on a single activity for a long time. Their attention span is very less. It is mainly because kids are more curious, energetic and exuberant. But it is definitely possible to help them and improve their attention in m anyways.

Here are the proven 10 tips to improve concentration and focus in kids

1. Reduce The Distractions to build concentration

Eliminate all unnecessary distractions such as loud noise from mobile or TV. The environment where they study or carry out tasks that need them to focus should be as distraction-free as possible. This will help the kids to engage more in the task given to them.

I even applied this distraction-free approach during online zoon meetings. Simply pin the teacher on the screen and reduce the screens of the fellow students.

2. Divide Their tasks

Kids have this tendency to feel that the task assigned to them is difficult and they may refrain from doing it. So a simple trick would be diving the bigger task into multiple smaller ones. Completing simple task one after another one would boost their confidence and increase the level of focus t finish an activity.

eg. instead of writing 2 full pages of one single activity, ask them to do half of 3-4 pages of the same of a different activity. This will not only break the monotony of doing the same thing over and over again to trying different things. You can always practise doing the remaining page later some time.

3. Make a focused routine for them

Kids like to know what to expect next and making a routine would be a good way to let them know about it. If they know they will be doing an activity today and probably at the same time tomorrow, this may turn into a habit quickly.

eg. you may decide that post-nap every day, for one hour they have to revise what’s done in school. Or finish homework or practice handwriting or draw and colour. After a few days, there would be a time that they know, now is the time to do homework and they would do their school work with better focus and concentration

4. Make Learning a fun time

All work and no play won’t do any good to your child. Allowing kids to have enough free time for fun and pleasure between classes or activities, will help them not feel bored. sometimes continuous and too many activities for a long time might get overwhelming and exhausting for their brains.

why play is important in early childhood

A small fun chit chat or walk around between classes may help them feel refreshed and ready for the next class. In Tuggu’s school, once one class is over, the next teachers play some fun brain games or simple exercises where they walk, jump to run around and come back. This way they feel much more active and arent tired sitting. a simple way to get them ready for the next activity.

5. Enough sleep every day

Sleep is very important when it comes to a relaxed mind and body. Kids need at least eight to ten hours of sleep every day depending upon their age to feel relaxed. So make sure that your child has enough sleep at night, and some nap/rest time during the day as well.

A hungry child can never concentrate well. Nor the one eating junk or sugar-rich food. Such food may make a child sluggish. A protein-rich diet would make them more active and ready for action, an unhealthy diet to poor nutrition in long term is also one of the significant factors for lacking concentration and growth levels. Simple home-cooked healthy meals would be much better to keep them fit and their concentration levels up.
