How can we Celebrate World Poetry Day?
Every year, the 21st of March is celebrated as World Poetry Day. This day presents people all over with a chance to celebrate the gift of poetry and encourage poets and budding poets, to read and write poetry for generations to come. A poet, a writer, or just a lover of the arts, World Poetry Day is a reminder to continue to follow your passion and never give up. It’s the perfect time to recognize this significant style of writing and its impact on our society and the world. You can also be a part of this celebration with some poetic activities and encourage this art. This is how can we Celebrate World Poetry Day.
The power of poetry!
With a rhythmically arranged set of (few) words, colored in images, packed in the correct meter. The power of poetry has absolutely no match. It is an intimate form of expression by the poet that uncomplicates things that often people struggle to explain. It not only opens doors to others but also enriches the dialogue that catalyzes discussion for humanity and peace.
Easy ways to Celebrate World Poetry Day?
1. Share a poetry/ short video
- We all have read poems somewhere and have a favorite. Post your favorite poem on your social media platforms.

- You may also choose to make an Instagram Reel or YouTube Shorts on poem audio.
2. Writing a poem
- It is completely okay if you are an amateur in writing poems. It is also not at all necessary that your poems need a rhyme or have 4 lines for each para. It should convey your thought in simple, easy, and few words.
- You may pick up some ideas by reading poems or books by poets to get some basic ideas.

4. Watching/attending a poetry show
- You may also prefer watching a poetry reading. Often watching a poet read his/her poems is better than reading them on your own.
- You may watch it online or attend Kavi Sammelen/poetic competitions. The vibe of hearing it in person is altogether a different game.
- If you know Zakir Khan and love his poetry skills much like his stand-up comedy, you might have seen, Zakir khan in the Rekhta 2017 video too. If not go ahead and watch it, this World Poetry Day on March 21.
- There is a Korean drama – A poem a day. You may choose to watch it too, check this link about it.
- If you feel confident enough and like to test your creative skills, you may try participating in poetry writing competitions too. Blogchatter.com often organizes such events on Facebook, follow their page to stay updated.
5. Support and know more about poets
- Spend some time online and expand your knowledge by knowing more about the famous poets of all times and their works.
- You may also buy a poetry book directly from the poet. This also serves as a great encouragement and appreciation for their work.
6. Review your favorite poetry book
- The soundest way to contribute something and meaningfully celebrate World Poetry Day is by writing a review of the poetry books you have recently read.
- This way you would be promoting the poet and your review shall also suggest other readers, pick up the book too.
