People have been drinking infusions of tea for thousands of years. Today it is the most consumed beverage in the world after water. The studies also show that teas have many health benefits. While there are three main varieties of tea available today- black, green and herbal. Green tea is among one of the healthiest beverages one can consume. Health benefits of Green tea are many. It is enjoyed sugar-free, it doesn’t have any calories and is loaded with antioxidants. Additionally, it tastes good and is super refreshing.
While almost all tea (except herbal tea) is brewed from dried leaves of the same plant called Camellia sinensis . The difference comes with the way the leaves get processed and their level of oxidation, it determines their type. Green tea is made from unoxidized leaves. And it is one of the less processed types of tea available today. Therefore it contains the most amount of antioxidants and beneficial properties.

Cancer is the world’s leading causes of death and is caused by uncontrolled growth of cells. It does oxidative damage to the cells. And Green tea is an excellent source and powerhouse of antioxidants. It is suggested in studies that the polyphenols in tea have been shown to decrease tumour growth. In fact researchers believe that, this high level of polyphenols in green tea that helps kill cancerous cells and also stop growing.

Green tea contains catechins and polyphenolic compounds. Both of these are thought to exert numerous protective effects on the cardiovascular system. Also with a high presence of antioxidants, it dramatically increases the antioxidant capacity of the blood. This further protects the LDL particles from oxidation, which leads to major heart disease
4) Green tea for type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes has reached epidemic proportions in the past few years and affects more than 400 million people worldwide. Type 2 diabetes means having elevated blood sugar levels. This can be in the context of insulin resistance or an inability to produce insulin. There are studies show that green tea can significantly improve insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar levels.

Green tea with its anti-inflammatory properties ways itself in the beauty industry as well. It makes great face packs and reduces patches of dry and flaky skin caused by the inflammation. It also adds extra glow and has anti ageing properties when used over a period of time.
