N for Nourish: make food your BFF by Pooja Makhija

N for Nourish: Make food your BFF, as the name of the book, suggests it is about food and everything nutrition. It is written by Pooja Makhija, who is a well-known celebrity Nutritionist and a bestseller writer with books like eat.delete and eat.delete.junior. The book ‘N for Nourish by Pooja Makhija’ is a kids book meant for the age group 10+ years to help them understand the food better for the right development.

Considering her previous bestsellers, my expectations from the Author was very high. And she did justice to this book again. It explains everything in a very simple and interesting manner, with a bang on textual information.

Overview- N for Nourish: Make food your BFF

Do you know why eating right is so important for all of us? Because it’s food that makes us run errands and finish our work, or your child to zip through classes, run across the football field or even win that difficult game of chess. A right diet has a positive influence on our mood, thoughts and even our ability to have fun.

This book will help you understand:

  • the right components of a healthy diet.
  • the concept of the five fingers of nutrition
  • the importance of good sleep, water and exercise in your day-to-day life.

As the book claims- N for Nourish will make you look at yourself and what you eat in an absolutely new light!

Book Review: N for Nourish

The book is rightly targeted to preteens. The age where kids need to develop the right balance with changing physical, emotional needs along with being able to cope up with examination pressure and stress. But with so much text and information especially about food might make it a difficult read for them. We can never ignore the fact that almost all kids are fussy eaters and reading something on food in so much detail not what they may be interested in.

Cons about the book

Even though its a hardcover book with colourful glossy pages, but the questions at the end of each chapter make it look more like a textbook. To maintain the interest of kids, a comic or story like approach could have been a better option. But nevertheless, kids who love reading books may read it.

I would rate this 4/5 for the fact it targets young adults but doesn’t do justice to that audience. Rest everything is great about the book.

But why adults should read it

As they say, the book is not just the ABC of nutrition but is packed with some worth read facts. Also about how food can change our life.

So if you are a health freak or looking forward to changing your eating habits for good. Or you just want a better understanding of your food better to plan healthy and nutritional meals, go ahead and read this book today. It’s available on all major booksellers and Amazon India too.

I’ve been hearing a lot of good reviews about the book lately. And I agree with you if it is targeted to kids then definitely story telling approach would have been a better idea.

In today’s busy and fast forward lifestyle we tend to ignore eating healthy and just munch on junk foods.Going by your review I’m sure gonna check out this book to get some tips on nutritional foods.

I agree with you completely Gunjan. The book was too text-heavy for the audience it attempted to target. Otherwise a good read.

Right, I enjoyed it thoroughly too. Guess what, I handed it over to my nephew who is 17 and he gave it back to me in a few minutes. That hit me hard, I was expecting him to at least read a few pages and skim the rest. But then his mother took it and she is currently reading it. haha!
