About the Author: Teja Lele
Teja Lele changed twelve schools in as many years and credits her adaptability to her army brat upbringing. Inspired by The Fountainhead, she trained as an architect but soon realized her building blocks were words and sentences, not bricks and stones. An editor for twenty years, she has been DIYing ever since she discovered the joy of making over and upcycling. She loves to read, watch crime on the telly, and believes the best stories are found between the pages of a passport.
Book Review: LIVE SMART: 100 HACKS FOR A HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER LIFE
As the title suggests, the book is full of ‘jugads’ or hacks you might need in your day-to-day life. All these hacks are precise and substantial for leading a happier life without worry-free. The 242-page book has something for everyone as it is divided into 5 sections namely
Section I- Home:
This section covers hacks for a vast range of activities from- replacing a light switch or showerhead (bathroom fittings), to cleaning the AC or fixing the washing machine. From redoing the furniture, and putting up wallpapers (Living room) to fixing a flat tyre or jump-starting the car.
Section II- Food & Kitchen:
The kitchen section has a lot of ideas to revamp the leftover food items to prepare pizza, pasta sauces and jams from scratch. It also includes the DIYs for Kitchen sprays and cleaning gad burners and blocked sinks.
Also read: Whole wheat Pizza recipe
Section III- Beauty:
The beauty section is one which all females would really appreciate. Easy ideas to make shampoo, hair oil, and even chemical-free skin care products like face mist or lotion at home as per your skin type is something I feel close to. Off lately I have been trying out a lot of home remedies for skin care and these hacks came just in time for me.
Section IV- Health & Well-being:
I would highly recommend everyone go through the health and well-being section of this book first. It covers 24 hacks which is useful in everyday life and something one must know just in case of any emergencies. From simple health issues like earaches, and toothache to becoming a pro at giving CPR (given at the time of heart attack or drowning)
Section V- Reuse and Recycle:
Section V is my personal favourite section. I prefer using the online shopping cardboard boxes for trying out various types of art and craft activities with my son.
The topics here contain hacks to reuse vegetable and fruit peels and regrow vegetables from kitchen scraps in your indoor garden. It also includes ideas for making sustainably reusable kitchen towels, wipes etc. My personal favourite is the bird feeder from a plastic bottle.
You may also read all about setting up an indoor garden in one previous post here.
You may also like to visit our art projects on my blog here and reels/videos on my Instagram account here (@theGunjanUpadhyay).
Overall Thoughts on the Book:
- The very idea of coming up with this bible of all hacks collated in one single book in itself is amazing.
- All of the 100 hacks shared are super useful and relatable for everyone encouraging them to try them out. The ones under the health section are something everyone should definitely know.
- The hacks are to the point with a list of items needed and noteworthy pointers to keep in mind.
- The index has all the topics listed under the section with proper page numbers, for easy later access.
- For a few complex things like making a scrubber, heat pack or CPR, there are pictures also given. The pictures, are black and white but clearly demonstrate what they are intended for.
Rating 5/5 Stars
Absolutely wonderful book, worth keeping in your home library. It’s the kind of book you would like to refer to and re-read every single time you need a hack. You can get your copy here on Amazon.in or read it on Kindle Unlimited.
