Zucchini – Add zing in your summers #BlogchatterA2Z

Have you ever wished consuming something like water but to get 10x more benefits? If yes, then your wish has come true. I mean almost.  Today, I am going to talk about the last letter from my #BlogchatterA2Z #SuperFoodsforHealthyYou series- Zucchini. And why Zucchini is an apt summer food.

What is Zucchini?

Zucchini is a summer squash, which is also known as courgette. It belongs to the species known as Cucurbita pepo- along with other few types of squashes and pumpkins.

Zucchini comes in numerous varieties and is usually is dark green or light green. There is another variety which is golden or yellow zucchini and one which is orange or deep yellow in colour.

1.  Weight Loss with Zucchini

Zucchini is a low-starch fruit, it is low in carbohydrates but high in fibre. it also has very high water content. This means it will help you feel full and avoid overeating. Isn’t is something precisely what we look forward to when planning a weight loss.

Also, since it has higher fibre content, it requires more chewing. This makes an individual take more time in eating and end up consuming less high-calorie food.

2. Zucchini for toddlers

Diarrhoea is a common problem among most toddlers. And feeding them peeled, small pieces of zucchini can help. Since it is soft and bland in taste, the child will be able to eat it easily. It shall also replenish the loss of water in such cases and replete with nutrients.

3. Zucchini for Healthy Skin

It is important we drink 8-10 glasses of water every day to keep our skin and body hydrated. The amount may get higher, in summers or when travelling outside in sun. Not only our skin but our body needs enough water to function well and flush out toxins.

As Zucchini is rich in water (almost 90-95% is water), it hydrates your body and skin. Hence is perfect to include in your summer diet. That’s probably a reason it is called summer squash.
