Top 10 Indoor Plants for beginner gardeners

Who doesn’t like the beautiful green in their home decor? But it’s overwhelming for few to keep up with the needs of the plants. Today, I am sharing a list of the Top 10 Indoor Plants for beginner gardeners. These are not only easy to maintain and care for but also suits well in our Indian weather. Having indoor plants in your home decor has many benefits. They not only purify the air, have medicinal properties, but they also add to the aesthetic value of the space. However, it is very important to pick the right kinds of plants, that can thrive well indoors and grow even with basic care.

 

Here’s a list of some really low-maintenance indoor plants in India which even a beginner gardener can have.

Indoor Plants 1: Money Plant or pothos

Money plant is known to improve the air quality at home.

Pothos or Money plant is one of the most popular Indian plants. It is very easy to grow it in both soil and water.

It is a known fact that a money plant improves air quality inside the house. Also according to feng shui, it creates a harmonious environment for the members and brings in prosperity.

Do you know the snake plant is known as “mother-in-law’s tongue”? it is a beautiful ornamental plant that also works as an excellent air purifier. A super easy-to-maintain plant in my list that thrives in low light. 

 

Indoor Plants 3: The Lucky Bamboo Plant

A Bamboo plant can be grown easily  in water or soil

It is an essential feng shui plant that nowadays makes a regular appearance in Indian homes. It is ideally placed near a window for indirect sunlight and can be grown in both clear water (which one need to change every 2 weeks) or in soil.

If you may try pruning, the lucky bamboo plant can also be shaped in a variety of forms for decorative purposes. Needless to say, it looks the coolest with levels of shoots rising straight up too.

Aloe is a succulent plant and needs low water and sufficient sunlight

Aloe vera is one such easy to maintain succulent which caters to health, beauty and your home decor all at once. Known extensively for its various uses, the plant is also fondly called “the miracle plant”. This ornamental plant needs to be kept near a sunny window where it can get enough light.

Apart from being a very aesthetically appealing plant, peace lilies enhance indoor air quality too. These little plants require little to no sunlight and are one of the easiest to maintain. Peace lily plant is also adapted to very low levels of watering. It grows into hooded flowers that are quite striking and beautiful.

These plants are so beautiful that is ideally placed on a bedroom side table. These are slow-growing houseplant which brings a symphony of natural hues to the home with its brightly coloured green and yellow leaves. It is also known as the “Song of India”, and needs indirect sunlight. A regular misting may be required to keep its leaves vibrant.

With their vibrant green canopy of leaves, ferns are the most preferred plants in India. These small plats need moderate levels of sunlight and just moist soil to grow well. Still, daily light spraying of the leaves will keep them green and healthy.

Areca Palms plant makes a beautiful addition to home decor with lush green fronds,  These plants need low to indirect sunlight. Hence make it idea near a south or west-facing window too. With just regular watering and re-potting when needed, areca palms can grow very tall in height.

  • Great list of options. Being a plant lover I always look for different ways to enhance the greenery of my house in both ways inside and outdoor. I have very clear choice in my list when it comes to embellish the outer garden but inside the room I always fail in finding the right plant that can also aid the healthiness to the atmosphere along with the beauty. Your post has solved my problems. Will check these options of indoor plants.

  • As I don’t get direct sunlight or have a balcony it’s difficult for me to keep outdoor plants. I have a bamboo and jade plant indoors. Glad to.learn I can add more plants indoors.

    I have been thinking of getting Peace Lily. Currently we have palm tree and money plant and it brightens the corner. Indoor plants are one classic decorative piece for any room.
