5 ways to spark your kids imagination with toys!

Many parents often have concerns that their child gets bored with a toy. Also that the kids don’t play with the same toys after a week or fortnight. As a result, most of the toys just end up lying in the storage or some corner the whole time. Though shuffling toys might seem a feasible option, there is something very obvious too. Do you know that even simple toys may give them numerous learnings? Making their playtime a fun activity can really help spark imagination in kids with toys they may have ignored sometime back.

Spark Imagination with toys
Each toy may have a new story every time

1. Show your enthusiasm when you join them

We expect our kids to play independently however it’s natural for them to get bored, after some time during their play. So, bring out the inner child in you and spent some quality time with them. Talk about which toy they are playing, what stories they are creating around the toy and how excited you are to listen to their stories.

Spark imagination in kids
Talk more, show them you are interested.

2. Make your own Game to spark imagination

Open-ended toys don’t require instructions on how to play. It’s all your child’s creativity and imagination that can do wonders. Indulge in creative play with your child and make a fun game out of it. This will help them use their imagination and evolve with some independent pretend-play too.

3. Initiate Role-plays and give them the lead

A right play is an important work for a child. So, when they invite you to join in their pretend play and ask “Would you like some tea”, with full joyous and enthusiasm reply ” Sure, Little Chef”. If they are busy in their block play, don’t force them to make this or that. Just sit and ask about what they are building.

4. Make learning easy with real-life experiences

Make learning encouraging for the kids by providing real-life experiences, wherever and whenever possible. Activity around the toy would be great like this and add fun to their play. For instance, we saw a cargo van loading some cargoes with a ramp, so we tried doing the same with our trucks toys.

Simple toys may also add a lot of learning

5. Stories always fascinate a child

kids are always interested in stories, as they fascinate their young minds.  So, during a creative play with open-ended toys, guide him to build theirs in own story around the toy. We at time replicate a story we read in a book or we cook up something on our own. Words like “Look it’s a jungle” or “This looks like a castle” will push them to think more and give wings to their imagination.

Buying games for your children is a better option because kids shows their interest in games rather than playing with toys.

Toys can be a great way to kickstart your child’s play and support your child’s development. But your child might not need as many toys as you think.

The best toys for children are ā€˜open-ended’. These are the toys that your child can use in lots of different ways. They encourage your child to use her imagination, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Practical, Logical and Sensible. This is what I need to say about your tips as a parent myself.
My girls have grown to the age where they don’t need my involvement physically but as a parent I always keep myself around whenever they play with their toys because somewhere or the other, they always need guidance from us. I also believe that what they play and how they play with their toys is one of the bases for their developing personality.

Hi Gunjan, nice pointers mentioned by you and i liked the way you summed up your post. Kids definitely learn the fun way and for them toys are fun only when they enjoy it with a good company. If we can be paly mates to the kids and match their enthusiasm and excitement, then learning is going to be more holistic and well-rounded.

I do not have a child of my own, hence I have no idea why modern parents let their child be engrossed in gadgets all the time these days… when I remember that we had a limit of one our of TV on weekends and no tv on weekdays (only gadget of our times) rule in place while growing up.
