Why change?

The current unprecedented pandemic is taking a toll on our overall health and well-being and we can’t deny the fact that it drains us over time. And we would not want this drain to come on our health insurance now, would we?

Though it is super easy to pick that pack of chips or your favourite cookies off the stores we should understand that this kind of unhealthy snacking is threatening to aggravate risk factors for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such, as obesity, heart diseases, cancers, diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease. These NCDs account for around 61.8% in 2016, compared to 37.9% in 1990, of all deaths in India.[1]

The Hows of crafting the perfect diet is easy and sticking to it in India during these tough times need not be too hard. Here are some tips:

1. Stock your shelves with healthy alternative food

First smart tips to craft the perfect diet and stick to it would be stocking your refrigerators and cupboards with healthy foods items. So, think wisely and stock your shelves with perfect healthy diet alternatives. E.g. choose a pack of popcorn instead of potato chips, a cup of yoghurt instead of frozen desserts or fruit instead of a cookie or cupcake.

2. Plan the menu in advance for healthy eating

Planning the menu in advance not only helps you use up the items you already have but also reduces the number of trips to the grocery store. I am sure it is something we all would like to avoid. Also, planning a menu would help to stick to a healthy eating routine during the quarantine. Just try eating meals at the same time every day and if you are not hungry for a full meal, just eat a small snack to maintain your timetable.
